TRAGEDY struck on Tuesday and Wednesday in Kano State as two persons drowned, one in a pond, the other in a well.
A 40-year-old man Muhammad Muhammad drowned in a pond in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of the state.
A search party found Muhammad’s body floating on the pond a day after he died.
Spokesman of the state fired service, Sa’idu Mohammed told the reporter that “the deceased drowned when he went to take his bath in the pond.”
He said the fire service received a distress call from one Rabiu Abbas, who reported that he had seen a body floating on the pond.
He said, “Immediately we received the distress call a rescue team was instantly drafted to the area, where the body was recovered.
Mohammed said the drowned man’s body has been deposited at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital.
On Wednesday, the state fire service also confirmed the death of a six-year-old boy, Mas’udu Yus’hua, in a well at Danbare Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
Mohammed, the fire service spokesman, told the News Agency Of Nigeria (NAN) that the incident occurred at about 11:39am on Wednesday.
“We received a distress call in the early hours of Wednesday from one Malam Sani Maikaji at about 11:39am that a boy had fallen inside a well.
“On receiving the information, we quickly sent our rescue team to the scene at about 11:45am.
“Yus’hua was found dead and his corpse was later handed over to the ward head of Danbare, Alhaji Magaji Kasim,” he said.
Mohammed said the cause of the incident is still being investigated.
